Yeah, seconding Yoonz, these drawings are remarkable Chen~

What are you using to draw them? Some kind of ink?

Also, you might be interested in submitting some of your art to SaidtheGramophone. It strikes me as totally in the vein of that site, and the art he likes. It's worth a shot for a little exposure and to see what it opens up I guess.

Hey, I'm thinking about putting together a songwriting circle. Just anyone interested in creating and sharing ideas, getting feedback and encouragement. Meet like once a month or something but stay connected through blogs or whatever the rest of the time. Anyway, let me know if you'd be interested in something like that, or pass it on to anyone else you might know, maybe Orian would be interested? Drop me a line.

So basically I'm thinking we could get together like once a month...or whatever works for people. We could take turns hosting so that people who are farther away don't always have to drive far. Other than that we can also keep in contact over email or online somehow just to keep people posted on our current projects...basically a way to be accountable.
Anyway, these are my ideas...right now I'm just trying to find people who are interested and get the word out...see if there's even enough people to get this started. let me know if you have any ideas. You can email me directly if you want: laurelnakai@gmail.com. I will definitely keep you posted.

Hey, I don't have your email so I'm sorry to post this here...but this is an email I sent out to everyone interested in the songwriting circle idea:

Hey guys,

I already contacted some of you about the idea of doing a songwriting circle awhile ago. Basically I want to put together a group committed to sharing and learning from each other, and also provide support and motivation in practicing the craft. SO...I had a convo with Jasun this weekend about how I wasn't sure exactly how to proceed especially since a lot of people live far away and it's not practical for us to get together face to face. He offered some suggestions (thanks Jasun) and we can up with an idea. I want to hear from everyone though and see what you all think , if you have any other ideas or suggestions or if you would like to help put it together.

Also, let me know if you are actually interested in doing this. If not I will take you off my mailing list. I feel like in this type of situation where we are creating art and critiquing each other, everyone who is involved (that means critiquing, or commenting) should be participating in writing as well. But that's just my opinion, maybe others feel differently.

SO, here's the idea:

we have a website...maybe a blog or something, that we post up assignments each week. By assignment I mean a theme, ("write a song about..."), perhaps a chord progression to work with, key words, any type of writing prompt. Everyone has a week to write a song. At the end of the week we post all of our songs and the next week is all about giving feedback and critique. So basically we would all be writing a song every two weeks.

Now, there are several things to think about.

1. How do we do assignments? One person gives a topic and we switch off...or I have a songwriting book that has a lot of stuff in it, I could just pull stuff from there. Should we give more than one topic and people can choose?

2. Everyone would have to have some sort of access to recording (even if it's nothing more than a mic plugged into a computer).

3. I have no idea how to post the songs to a website/blog....(I'm in the process of getting help from my very computer literate husband... but if anyone else knows it might get done faster, he's very busy).

I think that's it...any other comments, suggestions? Let me know if this is something you want to be involved in...and if you know of anyone else who might like to join just let me know or you can forward this to them.

Thanks!

Laurel :)

Hi Chen,

Sorry it took so long to figure out how to comment on a blogsite!!!! and this is Marnie, not Simon, since I don't have my own account! This is an amazing drawing. Is this one done with bic? Have you ever thought of illustrating a book? Keep it up. I am confused about are all the drawings on your blog, yours? Hey, check out our blog again and go to the Helping Hands video. Josiah said Simon could put the song on it. Its pretty wonderful!
